Long Distance

Zemanta Related Posts ThumbnailTraining for a long distance triathlon is similar to a half distance training (click here), except your distances are longer. For your first long distance event, it’s always a good idea to squeeze in a simulation workout when you’re at the peak of your training. This means you’ll complete an hour-long swim, followed by a 100-mile ride, and topped off with a 8 to 9 mile run. And this counts as your longest workout because you’re hitting all three components in one day.

So when do you know you’re ready to advance to the next level?  Start at the bottom and work your way up. Once you’ve got at least one sprint under your belt, you’ll have the experience to know whether or not you’ll enjoy climbing up to the next distance. Then move on to Olympic, half marathon and—as long as you have plenty of time and no nagging injuries—the long distance event.

Distances

Long Distance Triathlons usually involve the following disciplines:

  • 3.8km Swim
  • 180km Cycle
  • 42km Run
